Year 5

Welcome to the new school year in Year 5 2022-2023

We have really enjoyed getting to know the children so far and want to share with you some arrangements to set us up for a great year ahead.

In Year 5, the class teacher on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays is Miss Hubbard and on Thursdays and Fridays is Mrs Webster.

P.E. lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  On these days, children are to come to school dressed in their green PE t-shirt, black bottoms, school jumper/cardigan and their black school shoes.  They are asked to bring their PE shoes separately which they will change into for the lesson.

A set of weekly spellings will be sent home on Wednesdays.  Please support your child to practice these as they will be tested on the following Wednesday.  Look out for a small red book which will contain these lists.

We expect all children to try to read for at least 10 minutes each day as part of weekly homework in Year 5 and ask them to record in their reading record what they have read.  If these entries are signed by parents/guardians, they also count towards the ‘Daily 10 Reading Challenge’ which is a system to encourage and reward regular reading.  Reading has been shown to be a key indicator to unlocking success in many areas of the curriculum so is a valuable and worthwhile skill to practice.

Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please do speak to us on the school playground or leave a message for us to contact you through the school office.

Thank you for your continued support, we are looking forward to our year!

Miss Hubbard, Mrs Webster, Mrs Tymanskyj and Mrs Mower
